“1909 Glidden Auto Tour” by Lee Whiteley
The Glidden Tours, more properly known as the AAA Annual Reliability Touring Contests, passed through eastern Colorado in 1909. The fully illustrated program will document the joys and pitfalls of early-day motoring, as 30 cars traverse open prairie, pass small towns and railroad sidings, and roll through the streets of Denver and Colorado Springs. Side trips were also made to Lakeside Amusement Park, the Garden of the Gods. Lee, Posse member and former Sheriff, and wife Jane, have written seven books on the transportation history of the West. His first book, “The Cherokee Trail, Bent’s Old Fort to Fort Bridger,” was the 1999 Denver Posse of Westerners Brand Book. His presentation on this topic won the 1996 Westerners International Philip A. Danielson award. This will be Lee’s eleventh program for the Denver Posse.
